Granted, I'm not as cool as some of the people in those videos. I do support for some online software, I'm single, I sit at a computer all day, and am somewhat of a nerd. I have friends on LDS missions all over the world. My best friends happens to be on a mission down south and she is awesome.
So, there are a lot of times when I just don't know what I'm doing. I feel like I'm stuck in this hole and I'm not moving anywhere. When I graduated from high school I felt like I was expected to go to college but I was having such a hard time getting in it wasn't even funny (and I think everything is funny). One day I got a call from one of my friends and he said the company he worked for was hiring and he just thought of me because he knows I like computers. So I end up going down to an interview for this job that I had no idea what it was even for, and there are these five guys interviewing me and asking me questions like "Mac or PC"? It was honestly the best and most fun interview I have ever had in my life. They gave me the job and set me up with a compute and it was just a temporary job. They only needed me for a month to do some QA (quality assurance) testing for a project they were working on within this company.
A month down the road they decide that they like me, so what do they do? They put me in support.
Now, there are some important things you should know about supporting this online software. First off, it can be stressful. You have people calling, sending in help request tickets, and chats, some of which tell you that you don't know what you're talking about. Some of them tell you that you are an idiot and personally attack you. Some complain about the software the whole time they are on the phone. Then there are those amazing people who tell you that you are wonderful and they really appreciate your help. Those people are the reason we want to help people (so always be one of those people, support agents will WANT to help you).
Another thing about support at this particular company is that we are all nerds. You've got your Starwars fans, your lego nerd, Potterheads, Whovians, Superhero fanatics, Bronies, and your all out computer geeks. It's fantastic. We all tease each other and no one ever gets offended. And not only that, we learn to be accepting and honestly we just learn new things.
Another thing that is important is that support is just awesome. We throw Nerf darts, ping-pong balls, and other random objects at each other.Super fantastic. And only something I think my company really does.
So why am I telling you all this? Because this is EXACTLY the kind of place I had always wanted to work. The only person I had ever really told this to was the kid who called me to see if I wanted a job. The only other person who would have known is my Father in Heaven because I had prayed to know what I was supposed to do. I had tried to find jobs in the past, but they were all things I knew I just couldn't stick with for too long. He put me where I needed to be.
He does this for me all the time. I don't know what I'm doing and I wind up exactly where I need to be. This is how I know that my Father in Heaven loves me and knows me.
I am Mary. I have an amazing best friend. I like to eat cold onion rings and quote Harry Potter. And I am a Mormon.
